Environmental Monitoring
Environmental monitoring and impact assessments are becoming ever more important in regulations governing activities in the marine environment and in firms' applications for BS7750 accreditation.
The Harbour Works (Assessment of Environmental Effects) Regulations of 1988 & 1992 and the Environmental Protection Act of 1990 require planners and engineers, involved in harbour and marina developments, to carry out detailed site investigations to assess potential effects on the environment which would be caused by the works proposed and how these could be avoided or mitigated. Impacts may range from modification of sediment distribution over an area by the alteration of current flow rate and pattern, to the raising or lowering of the water table, changing ambient temperatures or adding pollutants from outfalls.
Coastline Surveys Limited undertakes surveys of a multidisciplinary nature within the coastal zone and in riverine areas to gather data essential for these assessments. They may be one-off site investigations or part of long term monitoring exercises managed by the Client or by the Company.
